Mark Harrison Quintet: Home
Welcome to the Mark Harrison Quintet website. From left-to-right in the photo, the lineup is: Rick Rossi (sax), Mark Chosak (guitar), Mark Harrison (keys), Steve Billman (bass), and Matt Starr (drums).
This picture was taken during the tracking sessions for the band's third CD project (tentatively titled "Just Add Water"), which is scheduled for release by Fall '09. These sessions were done at the Castle Oaks recording studios in Calabasas, California.
This forthcoming CD features ten new compositions by Mark Harrison, and again showcases the infectious melodies and funky jazz grooves that have become the band's trademark.
The Quintet has already released two CDs: “Are We There Yet” (2005) and “The Road Ahead” (2002), and has garnered significant radio airplay and press coverage (see "Radio/Press Reviews" page).
Mark’s goals for the Quintet and for their new CD project are very simple. “I want to chart our own territory in the jazz world, by creating substantive and interesting music that is still accessible to the ear of the listener”, says Mark, “I’m thrilled when people come to our shows who are not diehard jazz fans, and yet they still feel our grooves and hum our tunes when they leave”.
The Quintet is currently playing various club dates, outdoor events and festivals in the Los Angeles area. If you would like to be notified of upcoming shows and events, please join the email list (see box at top right of this page).
All the members of the Quintet are busy professionals, juggling performance, recording and education careers (see "Quintet Bios" page). The band is also available "as a unit" for recording dates - for example, in 2008 the noted Contemporary Christian artist Steve Potter hired the Quintet to record a CD of original pop/rock songs for the "Grateful Praise" record label.
